The Rules of Blackjack
The aim of blackjack is to get as close to 21 without exceeding it using your cards that are dealt to you by the dealer. If you get an Ace and face card or a value of ten on your first two cards then it is called a Natural Blackjack and the house pays three to one odds. If your hand beats the dealers hand then the house pays even money. If your hand adds up to 21 exactly the it is called a Normal Blackjack and if it exceeds 21 you lose your wager because you have bust. The value of each card is as follows:
The value of number cards with numbers 2-10 represent their own numerical value.
Jacks, Queens, and Kings are worth a Ten.
Aces are either a One or Eleven, depending on the number you need for your hand.
If your hand beats the dealers hand you win and if you both have the same number value then you keep your bet. The most popular blackjack rule is that the dealer will stand if he reaches 17 or is greater but not over 21. If the dealer contains an Ace then its total is 11 if it does not exceed 21 i.e. if a dealer has an ace and 9 then his total is 20 and he will then stand. If the total adds up to below 17 the dealer will then hit until it reaches 17 or more.
When playing Blackjack as a beginner then it is advised to sit to the dealers right as this will give you a chance to add up your cards and compare your hand to the dealers hand before deciding on whether you want to continue playing or not.
